The OSHA Department of Labor (DOL) card is a wallet-sized card issued to individuals who have successfully completed OSHA Outreach Training programs, such as the OSHA 10 Hour or OSHA 30 Hour courses. These cards are commonly required on job sites, particularly in construction and general industry, as proof that the worker has received OSHA-authorized training. The card shows that a worker understands workplace safety standards relevant to their role.
There are two main types of OSHA training that lead to the issuance of a DOL card:
OSHA 10 Hour Training: OSHA 10 is designed for entry-level workers and covers basic safety and health information. It’s a shorter course that helps workers understand OSHA standards and general workplace safety, including important practices for both construction sites and general industry.
OSHA 30-Hour Training: OSHA 30 is for supervisors, managers and workers with safety responsibilities. It provides more detailed information about safety rules, how to identify hazards, and ways to prevent accidents. This course is suitable for those in leadership roles or with greater responsibilities in both general industry and construction environments.
Select either the OSHA 10 hour or OSHA 30 hour training based on your job role and the requirements of your industry.
It’s important to enroll in a course offered by an OSHA-authorized training provider, such as OSHA Training School. Our OSHA Outreach courses are provided in partnership with UL Pure Safety and HSI, both OSHA-authorized providers of online training
Once enrolled with OSHA Training School, you can take the training online at your own pace. You can start and stop the training whenever you like, but you need to complete the training within six months to receive your OSHA card.
After successfully completing the training, the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) will issue your card. It may take a few weeks for the card to arrive in the mail.
The OSHA DOL card includes the following details:
The OSHA DOL card is not required by federal law, but many employers, unions, and local jurisdictions do require it.
The OSHA card does not expire. However, it’s recommended to refresh the training every five years to stay updated with the latest regulations and safety practices.
You can request a new card from the organization where you completed your training, as they are the only ones who can issue a replacement card. There is no centralized system for tracking these cards. If you're unable to get a replacement card, you'll need to retake the training to obtain a new OSHA card. Additionally, if it has been more than five years since your training, you cannot request a replacement card and must complete the training again to get a new OSHA card.
Stay safe and take the first step toward a safer work environment by getting your OSHA DOL card today!
