What is the NYC 8-Hour Worker Refresher Site Safety Training (SST)?

The NYC 8-Hour Worker Refresher SST is required for construction and demolition workers who have already completed the 40-Hour SST Worker training and need to renew their SST card. Completing this training renews your SST Worker Card for another 5 years, keeping you fully compliant with NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) regulations under Local Law 196 of 2017.

  • 4 Hour Fall Prevention
  • 4 Hour Supported Scaffold User and Refresher

Construction and demolition workers who have already completed the 40-Hour SST Worker training and need to renew their SST card before it expires.

Also eligible: workers whose SST card expired on or after May 3, 2026.

If the card expired before May 3, 2026, and your OSHA 30-hour card is also older than 5 years, you will need to complete either:

  • 18 hours of training (10-Hour SST + 8-Hour SST Refresher as OSHA 30 Refresher), or
  • The full 40-Hour SST.

If your SST card expired before May and your OSHA 30-hour card is under 5 years old, you can take the 10-Hour SST to obtain the 40-Hour SST card.

Yes. If your 40-Hour SST Worker Card expired after May 3, 2026, you are still eligible to take the 8-Hour Worker Refresher to renew your SST card. You do not need to retake the full 40-hour training
